My Story

My name is John S. Foresman and I have lived in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area since 1998. I have a B.S. in Engineering Management from The United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. I am an Army Veteran a father of three and a grandfather of one.

While working as an engineer here in Grand Rapids the last 27 years, I have dabbled in construction. I have built two of my own homes in Cascade. I designed them in CAD, rendered my own drawings, served as my own general contractor, and completed a good portion of the finish work myself. Both homes were built on time and within budget. I also flipped a house, again doing much of the work myself, from carpentry, finish carpentry (cabinets and trim), drywall, finish electrical (lights, switches and outlets) finish plumbing (toilets and fixtures), flooring, doors, decks, insulation, gutters, and more.

In 2021 I acquired my Michigan Residential Builders License and founded Freehand Contracting, LLC, to fill the growing need for licensed and insured contractors to help homeowners with their smaller projects that many contractors don’t have the time or desire to take on.

Every project reflects my commitment to quality work at a fair price.
